Frequently Asked Questions

Understanding Therapy

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, or simply curious about personal growth, therapy might be a good fit. You don’t need to have a specific diagnosis to benefit—many people come to therapy to better understand themselves or navigate life transitions. If you're unsure, we’re happy to offer a consultation to talk through your concerns and help you decide whether therapy is the right next step.

How can therapy help me?

Therapy helps by offering emotional support, increasing self-understanding, and teaching practical tools to manage life’s challenges. It can improve your ability to cope with stress, strengthen relationships, set boundaries, process past experiences, and develop healthier thought and behavior patterns. Together, we’ll work toward your goals in a way that feels safe and supportive.

What if I’ve never been to therapy before?

That’s completely okay. We’ll walk you through what to expect, and your therapist will create a safe, supportive space to explore whatever you’re ready to share—at your own pace.

Can therapy help me?

Yes—therapy can be a powerful support during times of stress, transition, or emotional difficulty. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, or just feeling stuck, therapy provides a safe space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and patterns. Many clients find that therapy helps them feel more grounded, self-aware, and empowered to make meaningful changes in their lives.

What is therapy like?

Therapy is a collaborative and supportive process where you can explore your emotions, experiences, and goals at your own pace. Sessions typically involve talking through challenges, identifying patterns, learning coping tools, and building insight. It’s a space where you’ll be heard without judgment—and where small steps can lead to lasting change. Every therapy experience is unique, and we’ll tailor it to fit your needs.

Logistics & Practical Details

Do you accept insurance?

We are in-network with several insurance plans. Please contact us to verify your benefits or visit our insurance page for more details. We also offer private pay options.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

We understand that unexpected things come up. If you need to cancel, please let your therapist know by phone or email at least 24 business hours in advance. This helps us offer the time to someone else in need and allows you to avoid a cancellation fee.

How do I know if therapy is working?

Therapy is a journey, and progress can look different for everyone. Many clients start to notice shifts in how they think, feel, and connect with others over time. To help track your growth, we use outcome measures—short questionnaires you complete periodically to monitor changes in your mood, thoughts, and well-being. We also gather your feedback and set SMART goals—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. We’ll regularly check in together to celebrate your progress, make any needed adjustments, and ensure therapy continues to support your goals and needs.

How often will I need to attend therapy?

Most clients attend weekly sessions, but frequency can be adjusted based on your needs, goals, and availability.

Will you prescribe medication?

We do not prescribe medication. However, if we feel it may be beneficial, we can refer you to a psychiatrist or your primary care provider (PCP) for an evaluation. If you're already taking medication, we’re happy to collaborate with your provider to support your overall treatment.
